CONTROL OF TRAFFIC
SUCCESS OF CO-ORDINATION IN LONDON. British Official Wireless (Received June 18. 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, June 16. The Passenger Transport Board, undoubtedly the greatest urban transport organisation in the world, will shortly celebrate its first birthday. Remarkable smoothness and efficiency have marked the result of this co-ordina-tion of services, which comprises 92 concerns—five railways, 17 tramways, 62 omnibuses, four coach and four subsidiary undertakings—and has a total capital of approximately £109.000.000. Tts staff numbers 62.000, and it owns a total of 11,550 passenger vehicles. The Board serves an area of 2000 square miles and a population of approximately 9,400.000, or nearly a quarter of England and Wales. In 1933 its undertakings carried 3,500,000,000 passengers, which is equal to conveying every day almost as many people as there are in the whole of Canada, and more than the combined population of Scotland and Ireland.
