Mr and Mrs H. Worrall, Christchurch, are staying at the Grand. Mr and Mrs R. J. McNiven, Sydney, are guests at the Grosvenor, Mr and Mrs G. R, Meikle, Ngapara, are staying at the Empire. Mr and Mrs W. N. Cunningham, Waverley, are visiting Timaru and are at the Empire.

Miss Mavis Bowen, Chalmers Street, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Ernest Howden, Park Lane, has returned from a visit to her mother, Mrs Henry Reid, Dunedin.

Mrs D. Murchison, Pairview, returned yesterday from a short visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Roy Mitchell, Oamaru, who are staying at the Grosvenor, will leave to-day for Christchurch. Mrs P. Scandrett, who was the guest of Mrs W. Johnston. Sefton Street, has returned to Christchurch.

Mrs W. Jennings, White Street, has returned home from a holiday visit to Christchurch. 1 Miss Elsie Oddie, who has been spending the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. C. Oddie, LeCren Street, has returned to Wellington. Mrs J. C. Stephens, Dunedin, who is staying with Mrs C. Bowker, Sarah Street, will leave to-day for Christchurch.

Miss Kathleen Hanley, Invercargill, who has been the guest of Mrs T. W. Satterthwaite, Elizabeth Street, left yesterday for Wellington on a visit to her sister, Mrs W. M. Satterthwaite.

Miss Moyle, Lyttelton, accompanied by her niece, Miss Hazel Wilkie, Springbrook, returned on Monday from a two weeks’ tour of the North Island. Miss Beckett, Waimate, who has staying with the Misses Buckley. Christchurch, is now the guest of Mrs J. H. Upham, Gloucester Street, Christchurch . Miss Matthew's and Mr P. R. Matthews, “Caerleon,” Waverley, who have been the guests of their aunt, Mrs Maxwell,. “Greenhills,” Kakahu, have returned home.

Prince George created great amusement when he appeared at the fancy dress ball given on board the Windsor Castle. At the height of the celebrations the Prince arrived with Major Butler, They were dressed as an early Victorian lawn tennis couple. The Frince wore a boater hat with two huge hatpins, a red blouse, a short pink coat, and a grey skirt, white petticoat, and a bustle. He was awarded first prize.

After paying a round of visits to friends in the Wairarapa, the General spent last week-end in Christchurch, visiting his elder daughter, Mrs Ashwell, whose husband has recently been transferred there from Hawera. Mrs Hart has been spending the last few days of her three months’ visit to New Zealand with Mrs Mitford, in Wellington.

The members of Chalmers Girls’ Club spent a most enjoyable time on Tuesday, when they entertained Miss Dorothy Moore, a former secretary of the club, who is shortly to be married. Miss Niell, leader of the club, in presenting Miss Moore with a case of silver soup spoke of the valuable services she had rendered, and wished her every happiness. Miss Moore suitably replied. During the evening games and competitions were held, the competitions being won by Misses M. Sutherland, Lloyd, and L. Agnew, and Miss Jessie Carnegie entertained those present with a recitation. “Kai Tiaki,” the New Zealand Nurses’ Journal, makes the following announcements:—“The engagement is announced of Miss Anne Gilfillan, a recent gold-medallist of Auckland HosI ial, to Mr Douglas Mitchell, of Terau. Others whose engagements are announced are Miss I. Cooper, of Auckland Hospital, who is to be married to Mr Norman Gallott; Miss Moreen Irvine, of Auckland Hospital, who is to marry Mr R. M. Fenwick, of Auckland; Miss Winifred Shostrom, of Auckland Hospital, who is to marry Mr J. ,J. Karl, of Te Awamutu; and Miss Florence Margaret Carpenter, also of Auckland Hospital, who will be married on June 6. at Mangawhare to Mr Mark Cyprian, of Aora." When Professor and Mrs R. E. Alexander arrived at the Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln, 25 years ago on Tuesday, the day was drizzly and depressing, but on Tuesday, when in celebration of the twentyfifth anniversary of their arrival they were entertained at a complimentary “At Home” by the Board of Governors and staff, old boys, and students of the college, the sun shone brightly and cordial were the congratulations and good wishes offered them by the many friends who had assembled at the college to do them honour. Mrs Alexander wore a tailored suit of sapphire blue tweed, a blue and white check blouse with tie scarf, and a biue felt hat to tone. She also wore a fragrant shoulder spray and carried a posy, the gifts of friends. The guests assembled in the hall where Dr H. G. Denham, chairman of the Board of Governors, presided. With him on the platform were Professor and Mrs Alexander, Dr F. W. Hilgendorf, Mr J. D. Hall, Mr Norton Francis, Mr A. H. Shand and Mr H. A. Knight, who, on behalf of the governors, staff, old boys and present students, presented an inscribed silver entree dish to Professor Alexander and a brooch to Mrs Alexander.
