DARING GAOL ESCAPE
CLEVER STRATEGY SUCCEEDS
NATIVE GAOLER SEIZED BY BEARD United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 22, 7.10 p.m.) CALCUTTA, May 22. Led by Jagira, a notorious desperado, and 27 men who were serving sentences, armed brigands daringly escaped from the Faridkot State Prison yesterday. Jagira was conversing with a Sikh sentry at the prison gate when he suddenly seized his long beard through the bars and pulled him to the ground, while the others snatched the sentry's keys and rifle and shot him dead. They then shot dead the sentry at the prison arsenal, looted 19 riffles and thousands of rounds of ammunition and fled into the jungle, pursued by large forces of police.
