RUGBY COMPETITION DRAW ARRANGED At a meeting of the Mackenzie SubUnion Mr Geaney presided. Mr Geaney extended a welcome to the delegates of the newly-formed Pirates Club and wished their club every success. Mr Roberts moved and Mr Fergusson seconded, that the competitions commence on Saturday, May 26, 1934. It was* decided that three rounds be played. It was decided that lhatches would be played according to the following draw:— Seniors. First Round. May 26 Fairlie v. Pirates, at Fail-lie. Aorangi v. Southern, at Albury. June 2 Pirates v. Southern, at Fairlie. Aorangi v. Fairlie, at Fairlie, June 9 Aorangi v. Pirates, at Fairlie. Fairlie v. Southern, at Albury. Juniors. First Round. May 26 Aorangi v. Fairlie, at Fairlie. Southern v. Sherwood, at Albury, June 2 Sherwood v. Fairlie, at Sherwood, Aorangi v. Southern, at Albury. June 9 Aorangi v. Sherwood, at Fairlie. Southern v. Fairlie, at Albury. It was agreed that when two senior matches were to be played at Fairlie on the same Saturday, that the two local teams play first. It was suggested as a recommendation that a representative fixture be made for the junior players at a later date in the season. The South Canterbury Rugby Union wrote asking for dates to be submitted for the annual match against South Canterbury. It was decided that Saturday, June 30, or any near Saturday, would be suitable. It was suggested that a third grade team also be asked to come up and play a curtainraiser on the same day. Mr W. G. Black and Mr H, Wall were appointed to see to the grounds before the first playing Saturday. It was decided that the prices for admission be 1/- for men, women 6d, season tickets 5/- (for club games only). It was decided that the SubUnion take the gate takings for two matches played at Albury, the local club to have the proceeds of the remaining matches. It was decided to issue twelve tickets each week, to registered unemployed. Mr S. Braddick was appointed gatekeeper, and a boy to be employed to collect tickets. Mr Roberts, on behalf of the Aorangi Club, applied for the use of the grounds for training purposes each Tuesday night. Mr Wareing moved and Mr C. O'Connor seconded, that a draw for training nights be made, this being carried. The following was the result: Aorangi, Tuesday; Fairlie, Wednesday; Pirates, Monday.

The question of the appointment of a selector was discussed, and Mr Burt moved and Mr Gibson seconded that a sole selector be appointed. Mr Moran moved as an amendment that three selectors be appointed, the voting being equal, and it was decided that three selectors be appointed on the casting vote of the chairman. The following were appointed as selectors: Messrs A. Strang, J. Gibson, and one other to be appointed. Messrs W. McNarry, J. Gibson, and W. G. Black were appointed a Permit Committee. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Geaney for what he had done in having made it possible for football to be carried on this season. FAIRLIE CLUB. The following will represent Fairlie v. Pirates at Fairlie on Saturday:— D. O’Reilly, G. Breen, R. O’Reilly, A. Crampton, L. Stevenson, R. Crampton, G. Giddings, E. B. Taylor, T, Woods, F. Black, E. Black, T. Creighton, A. Kane, J. O'Neill. J. Keenan. Reserves: E. Pinkerton, H. Crampton. CRICKLEWOOD. On Thursday the residents of Cricklewood met in the school to bid farewell to Miss R. Mulholland who is leaving the district. The evening took the form of a euchre party and dance and a most enjoyable time was spent. Mr H. Walsh, in making a presentation, referred to the capability of Miss Mulholland as a teacher, and said the children had made great progress under her guidance. Mr J. Campbell said he was sorry to see such a sympathetic and under-

standing teacher leaving the district, and expressed a hope for her early return. Messrs W. Waddell and J. McLean also paid tribute to the work of Miss Mulholland and wished her every happiness and success in her new district. On behalf of the residents of Cricklewood Mr Walsh said he had much pleasure in making a presentation of an oak-framed clock and pearl necklace to Miss Mulholland, and with these gifts went the sincere good wishes of the residents of Cricklewood. Prolonged cheers and musical honours greeted Miss Mulholland on rising to reply. Miss Mulholland expressed thanks to all for their presence and for the handsome presents. She had spent a very happy time at Cricklewood and regretted very much leaving. Mrs McLean and Mr H. Tubb were the winners of the euchre prizes. Extras for the dance were played by Mrs G. McMillan. Messrs Bayne and Connor were masters of ceremonies. LABOUR PARTY. On Thursday night Mr W. Nash M.P., addressed a large gathering in the Aorangi Hall. Mr 3. P. Bray presided. On the motion of Messrs D. Barnes and H. Istf f - Mr Nash was accorded a vote of thanks for his eloquent and instructive address. At the invitation of tine Fairlie Men’s Club Mr Nash, M.P., gave an address to members in the Parish Hall on Friday night. There was a large attendance, and Mr Nash gave a very fine address on the Japanese question. Mr Nash was accorded a vote of thanks.
