EVERYBODY SMOKES
EFFORTS TO WARD OFF HORDES OF FLIES. United Prpss Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 20, 6.30 p.m.) BELGRAVE, May 19. Almost everybody is smoking in Eastern Serbia. It is found to be the only means of keeping off hordes of death-dealing flies invading the countryside from the Danube breeding grounds. Children are encouraged to smoke at play, as it prevents bites on the nostrils and throat. Two persons have died. Animals are dying in thousands. Southern Serbia is also suffering a plague of poisonous snakes and tobacco smoke is the most effective means of keeping them at a distance.
