Mr R. Leon (Gloucestershire, England) is staying at the Grand. Mr S. R. Watson (Calcutta), who was at the Grosvenor has left for the. north.
Messrs F. O. Smellie (Dunedin), L. A. Gordon and Dr. W. Aiken (Christchurch) are at the Empire.
Messrs R. Lawrie, D. Gillespie. J. Lawlor, G. Gardener (Waikaka) and C. G. Cameron (Christchurch) are staying at the Dominion. Mr Emil J. Hall left for Christchurch yesterday to take up a position on the staff of the secondary department of the West Christchurch District High School.
Sergeant A. McCarthy, who for the last 10 years has been attached to the Dunedin Police Force, has received notice of his transfer to New Brighton in charge of that station. Commissioner Cunningham, Ten-i----torial Commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, is being transferred to South Africa, and will leave on July 14 by the Ruahine for London, to attend a meeting of the High Council, which is to elect the new World Commander. From London Mr Cunningham will proceed to South"Afrcia.

The following resolution was adopted at the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute on Friday: “That this meeting tenders to Professor D. R. White and Mrs White heartiest congratulations on their having celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding. It trusts that Professor White and Mrs White was president of the branch in 1888 and was the first elected life member. It is announced that the Ronald Megaw memorial prize for 1932-33, offered each year to the sub-lientenant obtaining highest place in the examinations for lieutenant, has been awarded to Lieutenant R. E. Washboum, of H.M.S. Diomede, New Zealand Station. This officer has already won the Goodenough medal for gunnery. He joined H.M.S. Erebus as a special entry cadet in January. 1928, and served as midshipman in the cruiser London.
Sir Alan Anderson, chairman of the Orient Steam Navigation Co., will visit New Zealand towards the end of this year. Accompanied by Lady Anderson and their daughter, Miss Hermione Anderson, Sir Alan will arrive in Australia in October, and after attending the ' telbourne centenary celebrations will come on to New Zealand. Sir Alan and Lady Anderson visited Australia early in 1933. Among Sir Alan's various interests are directorships of the Bank of England, of the Suez Canal Co., and of the London, Midland, and Scottish Railway. He is honorary president cf the International Chamber of Commerce and a past president of he Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom.
