OBITUARY

MR E. ADAM?. The depth lias occurred in Christchurch of Mr Eben Adams, who retired 17 years ago from the position of an engine driver in the service of the New Zealand Government Railways, and had reached his eightieth year. During his career Mr Adams was employed as engine driver on the Christ-church-Dunedin express for a period of over 25 years, and was regarded as one of the most competent drivers in the service. That this was recognised by the department is evidenced by the fact that on the occasion of the visit to New Zealand of their Majesties King George and Queen Mary (then Duke and Duchess of York) he was entrusted with the responsibility of driving the royal train. This event was frequently referred to with pride by Mr Adams, who was particularly impressed by the thoughtfulness of his Majesty, who interested himself in the welfare of the train's crew by making personal inquiry regarding their hours of employment and pay. Mr Adams was the recipient of a handsome piece of plate from the royal visitor as a memento of their visit. Mr Adams was a man of sterling character and integrity and was greatly respected by all who knew him. MR SIDNEY BRICE. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 19. The death is announced of Mr Sidney Brice, of the warehouse firm of Messrs Brice and Brice, one of Wellington’s best known business men. He was born in Christchurch in 1870. He was president of the Titahi Bay Golf Club.
