In a farewell message to Japan, Mr Latham (representing Australia) expresses sincere gratitude for the kindness and friendship with which the mission was greeted. “Everything I have seen or heard,” added Mr Latham, “leads me to believe that our mission has accomplished useful and valuable work. I hope one result of my visit will be to dispel the idea that Australia is a country of vast resources, which Australians are not developing.”
