(BY "PETEK PAN”).
DEAREST CIRCLIANS: Attention everybody! I have a most important, but rather sad announcement to make. After this there will be no more pen-names! Our Circle Membership numbers thousands now, and during the last year it has become increasingly difficult to find pen-names for new Circlians. I have heard of little people who hesitate a long time before joining our Circle, just because they cannot think of suitable pen-names. That is surely a dreadful state of affairs! There are hundreds and hundreds of pen-names in my big Pen-name Book, and nearly every new Circlian wants a name that has already been chosen. lam always being asked to find pen-names for you, and even though I put on my Thinking Cap, it does not help matters much; for, when at last I have decided to call you "Fairy So-and-So,” or “Captain Something-or-Other,” I discover, when I open the Pen-name Book, that some other Circlian thought of that particular name long before I did! “There will be no Children’s Page at all soon!” I groaned to the Lady-Who-Knows the other day, “because I will be spending all my time trying to think of new pen-names!” As usual, the Lady-Who-Knows had a solution for the difficulty. "Do without pen-names, then,” she said. “Impossible!” I cried. Yet, the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea. Most of your real names are quite as pretty as your pen-names, and grown-ups like you to sign your name, as well as your pen-name, to letters, poems, and stories. (“We like to know who, your clever Circlians Really are,” they tell me.) So that is what we will do, little people. No more pen-names, after this; and try to remember to write your age and address, as well as your full name, on every contribution you send me. If you do that always, you will help me more than you think, for our Circle is such a huge one now that it makes a big difference when you try to remember the Circle Rules. The Circle Rules appear in our Page again to-day, and I hope all new Circlians will cut them out and keep them. Before I end my letter I want to send a big Thank-You to Betty Roberts, who sent me __ the loveliest bunch of J jf ) Hi*. Txk Lots of Love f FROM YOUR OWN
