THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist. General Situation— Yesterday’s storm continued more rapidly in an easterly direction. An intense anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia and is moving on to the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate to strong southerly winds still reaching gale force on parts of the east coast, decreasing before morning. Seas (New Zealand Waters) .—Rough with heavy southerly swell. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Moderate to strong but decreasing southerly winds. Seas rather rough with heavy southerly swell but moderating. Weather.—Fine in western districts from Taranaki southwards, elsewhere still rather unsettled with passing showers especially on the coastal areas. Temperatures very cold with hail in places; light snow on the high levels; conditions improving generally by tomorrow morning. Mr F. L. Woolcs. Wind—Strong but decreasing southerly. Weather—Still somewhat unsettled, but mainly fair and cold. Conditions in Timaru. A thick coating of snow was evident on the foothills yesterday morning and a biting south-westerly wind made conditions in Timaru unpleasant. Although the sun shone the wind kept the temperature low, and even when the wind dropped in the evening, conditions remained cold.
