TALK OF GENERAL ELECTION
POLITICAL UNREST IN AUSTRALIA LIVELINESS OF RIVAL PARTIES United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 18, 7.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 18. The prospect of the Federal general election in September in face of the official denial a month ago that there was no such likelihood, has caused comment. The announcement was quite unexpected and has caught all parties unawares. The Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) refused to disclose his plan, but it is understood that definite dates for the dissolution of Parliament and for nominations will not be fixed until they are discussed by the pre-sessional meeting of the Ministerial Party, towards the end of June. In the event of the Federal elections in September, “The Sydney Morning Herald" says that it is suggested that the new Parliament should be opened by the Duke of Gloucester.
