HELP FOR DEPRESSED CLASSES. United Press Association—By Electric Tel egraph —Copyright (Received May 17, 7 p.m.) CALCUTTA, May 16. The Mahatma Gandhi has collected £34,384 for the emancipation of the depressed classes since he started his tour throughout India on November 7.
RIOTS IN INDIA.
POLICE FIRE ON MILL STRIKERS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 17, 7 p.m.) CALCUTTA, May 17. The police fired on the riotous Bombay cotton mill strikers yesterday and six were seriously injured. The trouble arose when the management posted a notice that strikers would not receive full pay for April owing to their striking without notice. The strikers stoned the mill, and injured several police officers and constables.
