THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist. General situation—A very vigorous depression is crossing New Zealand while an intense anti-cyclone covers Australia and the Western Tasman Sea. Winds—Strong winds to gales generally, westerly in and north r t Cook Strait, elsewhere south-westerly and southerlies soon becoming general. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough to heavy. Eastern Tasman Sea —South-west gales and heavy seas. Weather —Unsettled and boisterous with rain in most districts and many heavy falls, snow on the highlands and hail in places temperatures becoming very cold. Mr F. L. Wooles. Wind—Variable strong westerly to southerly ruling. Weather—Changeable, occasional rain and sleet showers likely cold. Conditions in Timaru. Wintry conditions were experienced in Timaru yesterday. The morning was ushered in, after a steady nor’west wind with heavy showers and a cold temperature. Throughout the day there was a biting southerly wind, with scattered but heavy showers.
