WHEAT Extra 5d per Bushel Effect of “Super” with a 30 Bushel Crop A new angle to measure the benefit obtained by manuring Wheat with “Super” is of the utmost importance to-day as it makes all the difference to profits at the end of the season. For a basis of reckoning take a 30 bushel crop with no manure, the normal “ Super ” increase of 5 extra bushels per acre and Wheat at 3/6 per bushel. Put down the cost of the “ Super,” freight and its application at 5/- per acre—the return would be as follows : s. d. 5 extra bushels of Wheat .. 17 6 Less cost of Super .. .. 5 0 Extra return per acre .. .. 12 6 Or a profit of 250 per cent, on the outlay for “ Super.” In this instance the extra money secured by using “ Super,” after deducting the cost of the manure, gives a return per acre to the grower that could only be equalled by receiving 3/11 per bushel for the 30 bushel crop grown without “ Super” ... in other words, an increase of 5d per bushel in the market price of wheat would be necessary before his land would produce the same aggregate return obtainable with “ Super.” “Supsr” also Reduces the Element of Risk “ Super ” encourages deeper and stronger root growth . . . this enables a crop to withstand dry-weather conditions. In the dry 1931-32 season the average increase due to “ Super ” was in excess of 5 bushels per acre. Crops liberally manured with “Super” are more resistant to disease. Where crops are liable to “go-down,” liberal manuring with “ Super ” strengthens the straw and so assists the crop to stand up. This is particularly important with heavy land, as it was once thought that manuring wheat increased this danger, whereas the reverse is actually the case.
