WEEKLY CONTESTS WINCHESTER CLUB On Tuesday evening, the Winchester Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club fired for Mr Brown’s trophy, which was won by Mrs W. J. Jackson. Miss L. Priddle won the weekly button. Gabites 70, S. Toms 69; club average, 69.7. WASHDYKE CLUB. The weekly shoot of the Washdyke Club was held on Tuesday evening. The Club trophy was won by J. Morrow, with 75 and 76 off the rifle. The official opening of the West End Miniature Rifle Club took place on Tuesday night. There was a large attendance of members. The president (Mr T. Currie) said he was pleased to welcome Messrs J. E. Chiles (West End Association), W. Duncan (Timaru Miniature Rifle Association), and W. Best (South Canterbury Miniature Rifle Association) to the opening of the Club. He was of the opinion that from the support received the Club would thrive and he thanked those present for their attendance. Mr W. Duncan congratulated the Club on having made a start, and commented upon the fine shooting facilities it had at its disposal. He thought that every member should be proud of it. After outlining methods used to carry on other Miniature Rifle Clubs, he said that he saw no reason why the West End Club should not become a very strong one. Mr W. Best congratulated the Club on its enterprise and endorsed tilt remarks made by Mr Duncan. He thought that the Club was fortunate in having a man of Mr T. Currie’s calibre as president. Mr J. E. Chiles said that he was pleased to be present at the opening of the Club, as it meant that another kind ot sport was starting in the district, and would give members a great deal of pleasure. He congratulated the Club on the fine range it had at its disposal. Miss C. Currie then fired the first shot to officially • open the range. The following were the best scores off the rifle:—W.
