A Press Association message from Palmerston North says that Mr H. E. Kissling. secretary of the Franklin A. and P. Association, has been appointed secretary and organiser of the Manawatu A. and P. Association.

On Tuesday the flags on the Union Company buildings were flown at halfmast out of respect to Mr Godfrey Holdsworth. a director of the New Zealand Shipping Company in London, who died recently.

At the annual meeting of the Dunedin Woolbrokers’ and Stock and Station Agents’ Association, Mr J. M. S. McArthur was elected president for the ensuing year. Mr Crosby Morris was elected vice-president.

The death of Mr John James Gibson, chief accountant, Public Works Department, and a member of the Highways Board, occurred at Wellington on Tuesday. Mr Gibson was born in Lawrence. Otago. He joined the hydro-electric branch of the Public Works Department in Christchurch about 20 years ago, afterwards being accountant in the district office there. He was transferred to Wellington as Assistant accountant, and on the death of Mr Waldie was promoted to accountant, an office which he h 3 ld for a number of years to the time of his death. He was single and aged 48. Mr G. A. Duncan, of Hawera, who has been appointed to the Dairy Commission, is a well known figure in New Zealand co-operative dairying. He received his education and commercial training in Wellington and in 1920 was appointed secretary of the Hawera Dairy Company. He has specialised in dairying finance, administration and management, and his services have often been called upon by the Government in an advisory capacity and as a member of various committees appointed in connection with the dairy industry. Last year Mr Duncan, who is president of the Taranaki Accountants’ Society, was awarded the New Zealand Accountant Society’s gold medal for his thesis on the dairy industry. This has been published in book form and been circulated throughout the world.
