BURNSIDE SALE MUTTON EASIER By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, April 24. Generally there were smaller entries in all sections at Burnside to-day. Fat cattle.—The yarding numbered 222. There were a few consignments of heavy bullocks, for which there was good competition, up to £l2/12/6 being paid. Values for prime heavies were higher by 10/- a head than last week. Good heifers were sought after, but the greater part of the offering consisted of plain sorts. There was no change in values. Extra prime heavy bullocks made £l2/12/6, prime heavy to £lO/12/6, medium to £B/12/6, light to £5/10/-; extra prime heifers to £7/12/6; extra prime cows to £5/2/6. Fat sheep.—The yarding numbered 1700, comprising a few good quality wethers and ewes. Rates were lower by 1/- a head with a heavier drop for medium. Light weights were firm, thanks to freezing competition. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 30/-. prime heavies to 27/9. medium to 24 6: extra prime heavy ewes to 23/3, prime heavy 17/- to 19/6, medium 15/- to 16/6 and light down to 12/-. Fat lambs.—About 700 were penned, including some trucks of outstanding quality. Butchers and exporters were operating keenly and late rates were maintained. Extra prime heavy sold to 31/-, prime heavy to 28/6, medium 23/- to 24/6, and light down to 20/6. Fat pigs.—Seventy-eight were forward, including a small percentage of baconers. which realised up to 65/-. Porkers met a better market, and were dearer by 3/- a head, selling at up to 45/-. Eighty-five store pigs were penned. The supply was in excess of the demand, and sales were difficult to effect even at reduced rates. Store cattle—There was a yarding of 182 forward. Buyers purchased sparingly. Well-bred three and four-year-olds sold from £4/17/6' to £5/15/-. Graziers’ cows were cheaper, but boners were firm at late rates. There was a small dairy entry.
