ON POISONS LIST
CORROSIVE SUBLIMATE. A warning that corrosive, sublimate comes under the provisions of the Poisons Act, and that as such must be dealt in by chemists with great care, has been issued by the DirectorGeneral of Health (Dr. Watt) in a letter received by Superintendent Bird, of the Timaru police. The letter stated that there is no doubt that the drug comes under the provisions of Part I (schedule II) of the Poisons Act, Regulations 10 and 11. Chemists dealing in the drug have to keep a proper register, and can sell the drug only to persons known to them, who sign the necessary register when purchasing it. The warning is a sequel to a case that occurred in Christchurch early in February, when a young girl died as a result of the use of pills containing corrosive sublimate. At the inquest, the coroner (Mr E. D. Mosley) commented on the fact that while some chemists took precautions in selling the drug others sold it without question to all and sundry.
