Asked in the House of Commons what action was intended in response to the invitation from the Danish, Netherlands, Norwegian anrl Swedish Ministers to co-operate in remedying the evils from which the shipping industry is suffering, and whether the Government would convene a meeting with a view to discussing the abolition of subsidies in the industry, and adjusting the supply of tonnage to actual world requirements, Dr. E. Leslie Burgin (Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade) replied that the communications were receiving consideration. The Minister remarked that the four countries who had made these representations had supported the British Government in this policy at the World Economic Conference. The matter would be much more important when a subsidy-granting country showed willingness to take such action.
