HELP FOR DAIRY FARMERS

PROPOSALS BEING CONSIDERED ACTION BY GOVERNMENT By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, April 12. The proposals framed by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board for assistance to dairy farmers, were placed before the Government by members of the Board to-day. In an interview this evening, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon G. W. Forbes) said that he was not in a position to disclose the nature of the proposals. Quite a long discussion had taken place, and he had give an undertaking that the suggestions would receive the consideration of the Cabinet and that a reply would be sent to the Board. Mr Forbes mentioned that in addition to the Dairy Board’s proposals, the Government has several recommendations to consider from the conference held last month of those connected with the dairy industry. No decision of any sort had yet been reached. “Now that we have the recommendations of the Board and the conference,” said Mr Forbes, “we have all the recommendations from the industry and can go ahead and consider the whole question.” When invited to comment on an opinion that the industry would be better served by a small commission of men with business experience taking the place of the Board or at least act - ing in a consultative capacity with the Board. Mr Forbes said that no such proposal had been considered by the Government.
