STATUS OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
SECESSION APPROVED BY COMMITTEE British Official Wireless (Received March 27, 11.50 p.m.) PERTH, March 27. The Special Parliamentary Subcommittee has prepared its report on Western Australia’s secession from the Commonwealth. This claims that the only effective remedy for the ills and wrongs Western Australia suffered under the Federation is withdrawal from the Commonwealth. The report urges the Imperial Parliament to give Western Australia the same status as the Dominions of New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, and proposes that the Imperial Defence Force should undertake the coastal defence until the Dominion itself is able to discharge this duty.
