THE WEATHER
Mr F. L. Woolcs. Wind. Moderate to fresh, south to east. , Weather.—Cold and changeable; isolated showers are likely. Dominion Meteorologist. General situation —A secondary depression of a cyclonic form is now centred west of Farewell Spit and moving rapidly eastwards. An extensive anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia and the western Tasman Sea. Winds—-Northerly to westerly at first over most of the North Island, elsewhere south-easterly, southerlies soon becoming general, moderate to strong and in places of gale force. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Heavy between Castlepoint and Akaroa, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea. —Strong southeast to south winds and rough seas. Weather—still unsettled, dull and misty with fairly general rain and on the ranges snow; heavy rain is likely in central districts, also on the east coast of the South Island; temperatures becoming cold. Conditions in Timaru.
The rain which set in on Monday evening continued throughout the night, and up till 9 o’clock yesterday morning, 26 points were recorded. There was no improvement throughout yesterday, a further 18 points being recorded up till 5 o’clock last evening.
