TRUCKS DERAILED
ACCIDENT AT HEATHCOTE. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, March 27. Three trucks, including a 30-ton petrol tanker fully loaded, attached to the middle section of the 3.30 p.m. goods train from Lyttelton to Christchurch were derailed at Heathcote this afternoon while leaving the shunting line on the south side of the main track. The train was moving slowly at the time and pulled up almost immediately in time to save the following trucks and the tanker from jumping the line. The derailed trucks were not badly damaged and two of them were moved off in the early evening. The petrol tanker, containing 5000 gallons of spirit, came to rest almost on its side firmly up against a solid power pole. If the pole had not been there the tanker might have rolled completely over dragging more trucks with it. There was no fire and no leakage.
