MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

WEST END CLUB PRELIMINARY MEETING A decision to form a miniature rifle club in the West End was arrived at by a meeting of those interested last night. The convener, Mr T. Currie, was in the chair. Mr Currie said that the formation of a rifle club in the West End had been talked of for the last two years, several people being very keen about the idea. He had spoken to wellknown shootists in the matter and they had advanced the opinion that there was no reason why the district could not stand a club. The club would have to start from small beginnings and the matter of finance would have to be considered. Once the foundation was laid, however, and he could see no great difficulties in the way, the club should prosper and fulfil a very useful function in the district. It would be necessary to apply for the use of the West End Hall, and, if this was granted, carry on there for a time. One or two prospective members, however, had considered the future, and a proposal to erect a range in West End Park had been considered. If the Club was established on a sound footing, he could see no great obstacles in the way of erecting a fine target range as good as any in the district. It would be necessary to keep this in mind right from the formation of the club. It was unanimously decided on the motion of Messrs J. Hull and H. Currie to form. a West End Miniature Rifle Club.

Mr G. Hislop was elected secretary pro tern. Messrs T. Currie, A. B. Stoddart and the secretary were appointed to meet the West End Ratepayers’ Association and discuss the matter of the hall.
