MUSIC ABROAD
LONDON THE CENTRE. “Judged by the number of international artists who throng to England for the concert season, it may truthfully be said that London is now' the centre of the musical world,” said Miss Biddy Allen, musical critic of the “Argus,” who returned to Melbourne after twelve months abroad. "Thanks to the marvellous work of Sir Thomas Beecham there was no longer ground for the reproach that London had no adequate orchestra, and, although music-lovers still turned to Vienna for opera, it was in London that they experienced the most brilliant concert season. Miss Allen said that when she left England at the end of December every important concert hall in London had closed its booking list for October, 1934.
