MAKING RIBBON COLLARS
WITH FAGGOT-STITCHING. Some of the new ribbons are so interesting and unusual that one is tempted to use them in many new ways. The angel-skin ribbons, for instance, can be made into fascinating collar and cuff sets for autumn dresses —one joins them with faggott stitching. These handmade collars have far more distinction and originality than those bought ready made, and they certainly cost less. To make a collar of narrow ribbon, cut out the pattern you want in tissue paper and tack the ribbon on to it, starting from the outside edge. Choose a pattern with straight lines, not curves, and turn the ribbon carefully at each angle. Then cut off the fold and finish the raw edges neatly on the wrong side. When all the strips of ribbon are tacked in place on the paper pattern, join them with faggot-stich-ing in embroidery silk of the same shade as the ribbon. The cuffs can be made Jin the same way. The inner rows will i follow the shape of the first row, and ; will naturally diminish in length. Join [ with faggot-stitching. Finish the | edges with a narrow binding of silk to , match, and press with an iron.
