Horror of horrors, there was not a note to be found. Furiously she turned on the customer next to her and accused her of the theft. The latter was taken off to a private room, stripped, and searched. Nothing was found. A stream of officials and attendants went back to the counter, and eventually, after long search, the missing 100,000 francs was found tangled up in one of the hats that “modom” had tried on.
