MAORIS AND RELIEF
NO UNFAIR DISCRIMINATION. By Telegraph— Press Association WELLINGTON. December 14. Replying to a deputation of Maoris regarding relief works, the Hon. Adam Hamilton said that there was no desire on the part of the Government to discriminate unfairly between Maori and pakeha allocations, but where Maoris had a piece of land and a dwelling that could not be overlooked. When Mr E T. Tirikatere. M.P.. said that It was a liability. Mr Hamilton replied "not always.” He could appreciate the fact that rents were not being received. There was no intention of being harder on the Maori race, but the desire of the Government was to give the greater allocation where the greater need existed.
