AN EMPIRE RECORD By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, December 13. In an attempt to lower his owm New' Zealand record of 6min 27 3-ssec for the 400 metres backstroke at the tepid baths to-night, L. J. Moorhouse broke the British Empire record by 6 l-ssec. His time was 6min 9 4-ssec. the previous British Empire record being 6min 16sec.
