PRODUCE MARKETS

SOUTH CANTERBURY. The week has been a particularly quiet one in the South Canterbury Grain and Produce markets, very little business having been recorded. Prices for practically all lines remain about on a par with those reported last week. The fowl wheat market is dull, the present quotation being 2 11 on trucks. There has been no change in the quotation for A and B Gartons, which are 2/- on trucks for A’s and 1 9 for B’s. Algerians are worth 2- on trucks and Duns 1 9. Chaff is quoted at £2 to £2 2 6 with practically no inquiry. Farmers’ dressed lines of ryegrass are worth 2 9 on trucks, the same price being quoted for Western Wolths. It is stated that higher prices are being quoted in North Canterbury. There is evidence that there is not going to be nearly the area held this year for grass seed as was the case last year, and numerous inquiries are coming to hand from overseas and other sources, with a view to entering into forward contracts.
