BOWLING CONTESTS RESULTS TO DATE The following are results of the competitions conducted by the Geraldine Bowling Club:— Campbell Cup. Handicap Singles.—Fourth Round: W. Turner (9) beat D. C. Stock and A. J. Burmester; T. J. Paterson and R. Helem beat J. Mulvey and A. G. Malins; W. H. Broad and D. C. Williamson beat J. D. McKechnie and J. H. Lewis. SALVATION ARMY. Under the auspices of the Geraldine Salvation Army Corps an enjoyable concert was given in the Town Hall by the boys of the Bramwell Booth Home (Temuka) and the Sunday School pupils. The Mayor (Mr B. R. Macdonald) presided. The display of drill and the singing reflected credit on the performers and on the officers responsible for their training. The Mayor who welcomed the party on behalf of the Geraldine Corps, heartily congratulated the performers. Prayer was led by Ensign Knight, and the Mayor then presented the prizes for the Sunday School year. The programme was as follows: — Carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” Boys’ Home; Scripture recitation, Charles Rattray, “Words of Welcome,” seven small boys; pianoforte solo. Mavis Chard; recitations. Fay Bell and Jack Shaw; vocal duet. Nola and Joan Cain; dialogue, “Who Killed the Chickens?” recitation, “Lost Tommy,” Max Dumpty; vocal solo. Mr Simpson; recitation, “The Pirate.” Paul Atkinson; vocal duet. Elza Elston and Mavis Chard; rod drill, Bramwell Booth Home boys; recitation, Elza Elston; mandolin duet, Adjutant Chard and G. Austin: dialogue, Douglas Sherborne and Basil King; company song, “Sweet Bird.” Home Boys; recitations. Iris and Basil King; musical band. Home Boys; dialogue, “Great Snakes” and “Church in the Wild Wood,” small company of boys: vocal solo, Basil King; recitation, “Guilty or Not Guilty.” C. Rattray; action song. “Corps,” elder girls; duet, “Go and Tell,” C. Rattray and J. Opie; vocal solo, Miss P. Robinson. BIBLE CLASS SOCIAL. Members of the Presbyterian Girls’ Intermediate Bible Classes entertained the members of the Boys’ Bible Classes at a social evening in the Presbyterian Hall. Opportunity was taken by Miss P. Black to present the Rev. W. J. and Mrs Couling with a Christmas gift, and on behalf of the Girls’ Class a Christmas cake was presented to the Couling children. Mr Couling expressed his thanks. Games and competitions were enjoyed, Miss J. Lapthorne and Master Cowie winning that for “musical backs.” The accompaniments were played by Mesdames W. J. Couling, and Messrs A. Wylie and L. Ellis. Chrsitchurch (established 1877), will be making the next regular visit to Geraldine on Wednesday, 7th February, 1934.
