THE WEATHER IN SOUTH CANTERBURY.
To tho Editor of •• The Tlmaru Herald " Sir,—ln recent conversation with some farmers In this district, I find the prevailing opinion is that ideal weather conditions, especially for sheep, have prevailed during the past eight months, and that the destructive late frosts experienced in North Canterbury and elsewhere, have been comparatively harmless here. North Canterbury, too, is still complaining of a shortage of rain. The fact that special favours in regard to climatic conditions seem to have accumulated in South Canterbury to a remarkable extent, has caused much conjecture by our northern friends. Seeing that “The Timaru Herald” is the chief daily circulating in the district, it almost seems that other sources of instruction and information on these problems, have not been contributory to such pleasing results. Obviously, therefore, to be up-to-date, settlers should seek to obliterate climatic worries by subscribing to “The Tlmaru Herald.” I w'ill endeavour, sir, with your permission, to supply your readers with a theoretical explanation of the phenomena before Christmas. It will not appeal to those who believe that sunshine and rain are caused by chance.—l am, etc., C. H. MASON.
