RUGBY UNION

TRIBUTE TO LATE MR J. P. ROSEVEAR MEETING OF COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the South Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening, Mr J. O’Leary presiding. The chairman made reference to the death of Mr J. P. Rosevear, who had :’ied since the last meeting of the committee. Mr Rosevear had been a valuable member and had given great service for football in South Canterbury. He had been enthusiastic about anything concerned with the sport, and had been a good man to work with. Although he had been an enthusiastic supporter of the Celtic Club, he had never let club matters stand in the way of his Management Committee duties. He had taken a prominent part in the annual tournament, and it was largely due to his efforts that it had been such a success in recent years. A testimonial fund had been opened, and he was sure that members of the Union and affiliated clubs would do what they could to help along a good cause. Members stood in respectful silence, and on the motion of Messrs A. Clemens and A. Aitken it was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the family and to place on record appreciation of the valuable services the deceased had given to football generally. A letter of sympathy was received from the North Otago Rugby Union. Mr Clemens suggested that it might be possible to arrange a benefit match next season. A cheque for £4l/2/6, being a grant from the Canterbury Rugby Union towards the South Canterbury team's expenses in connection with the Ranfurly Shield game, was received. The secretary stated that he had replied expressing appreciation of the grant. The chairman and members exchanged seasonal greetings.
