WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
HUNTER The Hunter Women s Institute entertained members from the Waituna and Teschemakers Institutes at its meeting last week, more than 60 members fc?ing present. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song, after which Mrs A. Robinson, who presided, expressed her pleasure at seeing so many present and introduced Miss Davies and Miss Rogers, and asked them to accept a posy each. Apologies were read from Mrs L. E. Williams (South Canterbury Federation) and Mrs H. Miles (Teschemakers). Miss Davies answered questions dealing w r ith Institute matters, and then gave a talk on her personal experiences when travelling in India. A motion of thanks was carried with acclamation. The competitions, judged by the visitors, resulted as follows: —Embroidered d’oyley, Mrs F. Turner 1. Miss B. Anstey 2. Four plain biscuits. Miss H. Mercer 1. Miss H. Shears and Miss A. Cooper (equal) 2. Premier bloom, Miss E. Cooper (geranium) 1, Miss M. Mercer (stock) 2. A song was given by Mrs C. Gibson, Mrs Morrison being at the piano. A display of work done by the members during the year was shown, and a drive for “Christmas Cheer” for the Relief Depot produced eggs, butter, honey, jam and Christmas puddings. A nursery rhyme guessing competition was won by Miss H. Shears. It was decided to hold a picnic on New Year’s Day instead of the usual January meeting. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Barclay, King, Morrison and Miss M. Gunn, aided by members of the committee.
