FIERCE FIGHTING IN BARCELONA

The city is in a state of siege. There are machine guns on all the public buildings, and special forces are guarding the post offices, and telephone exchanges. The anarchist, Durutti, has been arrested. Bomb explosions are reported throughout the city. A anarchist revolutionary proclamation incites the people to arms and mass insurection, and invites the soldiers to join in the destruction of the State, including the seizure of the i banks. Serious fighting occurred early this morning between the police, and the communists and anarchists in Barcelona, Sargossa and other towns. One civic guard and one civilian was killed in Barcelona. Many were wounded. The authorities state that the situation is under control. Many stores of bombs and ammunition have been discovered. The authorities also found details of a March on Barcelona, planned for Saturday. All is quiet in Madrid. A mob marching on Barcelona, attacking and burning houses en route, was checked by the civic guard. An express train was derailed at Bilbao. This is believed to be due to an act of sabotage.
