TIMARU SOCIETY MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the Committee of the Timaru Horticultural Society was held last night. Present—Mr Geo. Knowles (chairman), Mesdames R. H. Rhodes, F. Barker. I. Segar. A. J. Wigley, G. J. Wallace, W. J. Rooney, Geo. Knowles. M. Sutherland and Messrs G. Bowker. A. W. Anderson, W. S. Blaikie, A. S. Jones, J. Moody. D. B. Shand. J. C. Butcher, G. J. Wallace, and J. Cleland. The chairman welcomed Mrs Wigley back to the Committee and expressed pleasure at her recovery from her

recent illness. Cottage Garden Competition. The chairman said that the first stage of the cottage garden competition had been judged, and the next stage should be started at the beginning of February. In the three classes 18 entries had been- received. The school garden competition had been judged by the Christchurch agricultural Inspector, but the results had not yet been officially announced. Success of Show. “We should all feel very satisfied with the recent summer show,” said the chairman. Although there had been a loss of £l2 19s 3d. the summer show for 1932 had resulted in a deficit of £l3 7s, and considering all things the Society had come out very well. The takings at the door were £5 16s. and In 1932 they were £6 7s. The Society had a good membership, however, and the loss on the show should not cause any great set back. General. A comprehensive vote of thanks was accorded the judges, Mrs J. C. Templer (decorative section), Messrs J. A. McPherson (cut flowers'. D. B. Shand and J. Cleland (vegetables), Mesdames Rooney and Segar for supervising refreshments. Mrs R. H. Rhodes for her excellent display and to the press for the space given the show.
