COMMITTEE MEETING DISTRICT FAT LAMB COMPETITION The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday. Present—Dr. P. R. Woodhouse (president). Messrs P. R. Talbot, Roland Guinness.. Andrew Grant, D. Grant, B. E. H. Tripp, H. Lowry, P. Porter, M. F. Maze, W. J. Bassett, T. Seaton, A. S. Elworthy. H. Elworthy, W. H. Orbell. C. L. Orbell, E. Hart, and G. McKeown. Camping Ground. The South Canterbury Automobile Association forwarded a cheque for £lO, being contribution towards camping in the showgrounds in 1930. The Association stated that a further donation would be made when suggested improvements had been effected. Mr Seaton stated that the work referred to had practically been completed. Letter of Thanks. The Timaru branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union wrote expressing thanks to the Association for having placed their stall in such a prominent position at the recent show\ Royal Agricultural Society. The Royal Agricultural Society wrote asking for payment of the membership subscription for 1933-34. Members asked what benefit the Association derived from membership, and it was decided to approach other Associations before renewing membership for the coming year. Fat Lamb Competition. The Temuka A. and P. Association forwarded a cheque for £4 4s, being a donation of £2 2s towards the prize fund of the district fat lamb competition last year, and £2 2s towards this year’s prize fund. The Pastoral Committee brought down a report embodying conditions for this year's competition. Mr Tripp, as chairman of the committee, said that a request had been made for the competition to be held at Pareora this year, but it had been found that a good deal of spade work had already been done, it being considered that the empetition should again be held at Smithfield. If the competition was to be held at Pareora next year, a good deal longer notice than was given this year would be necessary. Mr Elworthy said that it was desirable that farmers should be informed what the prize money was likely to be at the earliest possible moment. He said that the competition was becoming popular, and it might be advisable to give a challenge cup. After brief discussion, it was decided to give prizes of £3, £2. and £l. A field day is to be held at the works on January 9. when farmers will have an oportunity of seeing the sheep killed. Showgrounds. The tender of Southgate Bros., of £2B 19s for showers and wash basins fet the Showgrounds, was accepted.
