SELF DENIAL
RESULT OF “ARMY” APPEAL. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 6. The results of last week’s self-denial appeal by the Salvation Army were made available to-day by Commissioner John Cunningham. Although the total sum received is appreciably below what was subscribed in preslump years, it discloses a slight increase on last year’s figures. The totals are:— £ s. d. Many of the pohutukawa trees which line the hills at the back of Oliope Beach, Whakatane, are already commencing to bloom. The early flowering of these trees is regarded as an indication of a change soon to warm, summer weather.
