EALING.
At the October meeting of the Ealing Women's Institute Mrs W. Giddings presided. The resignation of the president, Mrs J. W. Withell, was accepted with regret and it was decided that a letter be sent to her expressing the members’ appreciation of her services during her term of office. Mesdames J. Good and B. Withell were elected delegates to attend a meeting of the South Canterbury Federation. Two junior members, Misses E. Simpson and H. Galletly, demonstrated the making of silk lampshades, and Mrs K. Glennie (Ashburton) gave a demonstration of floral work. The demonstrators were accorded votes of thanks. Community singing was enjoyed under the leadership of Mrs A. Donaldson. Competitions resulted as follows: Jar of narcissi. Mrs Davis Ist, Miss P. Good 2nd; jam tarts. Mrs Davis Ist, Mrs Simpson and Miss E. Simpson 2nd equal; article made from a yard of cretonne, Mrs Cross Ist, Miss E. Simpson 2nd. -The next meeting will take the form of a garden party at the residence of Mrs E. Davis. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Mesdames Keen, Forsyth, and Miss McGuigan.
