PROTESTS BY AUCKLAND COMMITTEES. AID OF BOARD SOUGHT. A number of resolutions passed recently by the Auckland School Committees’ Association came before the Auckland Education Board at its meeting last week. The resolutions were:—(l) That steps be taken to secure the amendment of the present regulation prescribing that no relieving teacher be appointed to till a vacancy for a period of less than four weeks. If, in the opinion of the senior inspector, the remaining staff can conduct the school In a satisfactory manner. (2) That this association approach the Education Department on the question of handwork as at present taught in our schools, with a view to introducing more useful forms of handwork. 13) That a protest be endorsed against the action of the Government in reducing the supply of handwork material. (4) That a protest be endorsed against the intermediate school pupil* being deprived of one year's tuition. (5) That first aid outfits be provided to all schools and that the cost of such be borne by the Department. (6) That a further protest be endorsed against the five-year-old children of this Dominion being debarred from attending the primary schools. (7) That this association views with alarm the frequent changes of probationary teachers, whicli is most unsatisfactory. not only to the children themselves, but to the teachers, who must lose much interest In their chosen profession. The resolutions were dealt with as follows:—No. 1: The association to be informed that provision already exists for the employment of relieving teachers with the approval of the senior inspector. No. 2 Further Information to be supplied. Nos. 3 and 6: Endorsed. No. 7: A conference of representatives of boards to be convened if possible to devise a satisfactory scheme
