HELPFUL TREATMENT. Children who suffer from car sickness are always a problem on a long journey. They either have to be packed off separately in a train or boat, or just have to make the best of feeling sick and miserable on the j motor trip. The following treatment sometimes helps: For a few days beforehand keep fats low and omit meat, giving protein —fish, cheese or nuts. Increase natural sugars in dried fruits and honey, and on the morning of the journey give bread and honey and dried fruits, and a drink of fruit juice, no butter or milk. Then minutes before starting give a pinch of bicarbonate of soda in water, and allow a piece of barley sugar on the journey. SIX HUNDRED SALADS. One of London’s hotel chefs claims that he can make 600 different kinds of salads, and as salads are much in demand in the hot weather, his employers allowed him to prove his -words. It was true that there were not quite 600 on view at the hotel, as the sponsors regretfully announced that only 83 could be shown. These, however, were quite enough to go on with, being arranged on a stand in eight rows of ten, with the three most ornate efforts crowning the whole.

The remaining recipes were left to the imagination, the titles being printed on a scroll attached to the giant buffet. By borrowing favourite creations from all countries, the chef had certainly achieved his boasted total, grass, figs, nuts, and other unexpected ingredients being used in certain examples. Very wisely he had made the majority of “show pieces” along accepted lines, so that many were bought and eaten before the exhibition was closed.
