MUST BE GRADUAL. “Ultra-violet light, which encircles the blood stream and actually builds up the precious vitamin D out of the fat stores of the body, is a really wonderful health restorative, and I am sure you will be wanting to take a large dose of it on youy holiday,” states a writer in an exchange. •
“But do be careful! The sunshine is a very potent tonic, for which you must be properly prepared. Many disasters arise from indiscreet sunbaths. Every doctor can draw examples from his own practice. Skin complaints, bums, tuberculosis, these are but a few of the results of careless indulgence.
“Take your sunlight in small and gradually-increasing doses. It would be foolish for you to spend the first day of your holiday full in the sunshine, especially if you have been used to an indoor life.
“The initial sunbath should be of short duration—no longer than ten minutes, exposing only the feet and the front of the lower legs. The next sunbath will expose the back of the legs, and will last five minutes longer. Work up gradually this way, until at the end of a fortnight you are exposing the whole of the body, clad only in a bathing suit, for a space of two or three hours.
“If you possess a specially sensitive skin, you should anoint the exposed areas of your body with olive oil for the first two or three sunbaths. It is
