ENTERPRISING JAPANESE
A SCHOOL FOR BRIDES. About a year ago Tokio opened the first Japanese school for future brides. Many people throughout the country ridiculed the idea, while even the men folk most likely to benefit from the plan scorned the idea of marrying what they called “theoretical brides.” To-day the first graduates of this school are turning the tables. It did not require long for them to prove to prospective husbands that they had taken their training seriously, and that by their cooking, needlework, domestic economy and education they were superior to the usual run of eligible wives. The news of their success quickly went the rounds of young girls anxious to marry. The result was that so many applied for admission to the school this year that it was impossible to take them all. Encouraged, therefore, by both prospective brides and husbands and inspired by the success of the first “wife-graduates," the authorities have decided to open other schools in the provinces. The Tokio School of Brides is to open also its marriage bureau, so that marriages may be arranged for its graduates before they leave school.
