“ROBINSON CRUSOE.”

Some montns ago, numoer o: local enthusiasts met and formec themselves into a company called “This Fhirlie Amateur Players.” It was decided tha. quite a lot 01 enjoyment could be had by the young people of the township, if somt modern play or pantomime were arranged and staged. The choice fell or the pantomime “Robinson Crusoe,’ and during the winter months, th< 50 members of the company, have practised and rehearsed steadily. The result was the presentation of “Robinson Crusoe” in all J ls gorgeorr.iess tc a packed hall on Wednesday night Even the most optimistic must hav< been agreeably surprised at the verj fine performance given, r.hd the completeness with which every detail oi scenery and effect was thought out. Mr A. Edward, under whose direction, the pantomime was produced can be heartily congratulated on the outcome of his efforts. The scenerj which was painted and arranged bj Mr J. Crichton, was of high merit and on a scale never before attempted in Fairlie. Mrs J. Shears was in charge of the music which was carried out in her usual efficient manner. cast of characters was as follows:—“Mrs Crusoe”. Mr F. Geaney; “Towser,” Master Surridge: “Luke”, Mr R. Creighton: “Polly Perkins” Mice E. Crichton; “Crusoe” Miss J. Burt; “Captain Skull”, Mr J. Burt; “Bill Blood”, Mr C. Adamson; “Silas Smug’ 1 Mr F. Tew; “Friday”, Mr G. Fordyce; "Queen Hullo”, Miss P. Martin; “Lord Chamberlain”, Mr S. Woods; “Lola”, Miss P. Shaw. Full chorus of Citizens, Bamboo Girls, Courtiers, etc. The ’’tyllet under the direction of Miss Audrey Crichton was a feature of the performance and the large audience showed their appreciation by sustained applause. The various parts were acted exceedingly well. Miss Jean Burt as "Robinson Crusoe” carried out a difficult part with distinction. The comedy which was in the capable hands of Messrs F. Geaney °nd R. Creighton was well done and showed much originality and it w-as a good humoured crowd that streamed from the hall at the late hour of 11.15. The pantomime was staged again on Thursday afternoon and was attended by a large number of children and adults
