FASHION NOTES

NEW DETAILS. (Written for “The Herald" by “Stylist.”) Last week we discussed designs and colours reminding us of our grandmother’s day and now the jewellery r f her day is coming to light once more. C. :*ved ivory jewellery in a rich cream shade is eagerly sought after, and is to be worn as a smart accompaniment to summer dresses. Another new mania is to have scarf, belt, bag and gloves all to match—the gloves even being made of such materials as unbleached linen, crash pique, or coloured crepe; or for evening wear, of printed organdie or shiny satin or whatever your frock is made of. Feathers are being used for trimming, one idea being a bracelet cf feathers placed high round the arms of evening gowns. Some interesting new colours are:—Wheat yellow, a pale creamy yellow, a gilly flower mauve, and a browned mauve. All skirts are longer—below the calf for morning and ankle length for afternoon wear. Waistlines remain stationary, or, if anything, move downwards. To be square above the waistline is to be smart: all the more youthful models for coats and dresses, both in wools and cottons, are designed with accentuated sleeve-tops or shoulders. This is accomplised by various methods, either by the cut of the yoke, by frilly trimmings, or by the allpied formal epaulette. Suits and dresses with jackets to match are more in favour than top coats —the newest jackets being knee length, loose, hanging from the shoulders and extremely full in the back. Every little dress has a wraplet of its own, whether it be a cape, a vague little jacket, or the knee length, loose and easy, which is perfect for the summer days. Many of the coats and jackets are collarless, sometimes being tied with their own material.
