The school bell was rung by Mrs J. Moore, of Ashburton, who was one of the early pupils. The speaker expressed complete satisfaction with the arrangements that had been made. He said that the jubilee had been a stirring time for ex-pupils who had not been back to Temuka for years, and he would long remember the pleasant few days spent In the surroundings of his boyhood's days.

Thoreau, who was representing the I South Canterbury Centre, and Mr G. Levens, the club’s oldest member, who j was apparently preparing to enjoy a | game. (Applause.) The club had to be thankful for the services of a very j fine ground supervisor in Dr. A. S. Mcj Innes. and for the care and attention | that had been given by the caretaker | (Mr A. E. Uden). Mr A. The surroundings were I delightful and with the good sport j provided by local bowlers some very j good times had been spent on the Te- i muka green. He concluded by wish- j ing the club every success for the com- : ing season. In declaring the green officially open p the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan) said lie | was pleased to see it in such good con- j dition at this time of year. Everyone in Temuka appreciated the work of Mr T. E. Gunnion and his chief in- I terest had been in the Domain. For the splendid surroundings of the bowling lawns he had been largely responsible. Mr Buzan concluded by expressing a hope that the visitors to the town would enjoy the day. The Mayoress then rolled up the first “kitty” and Mrs J. B. Davis, president of the Ladies' Club, the first bowl. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies under Mrs Strange. DOMAIN BOARD MEETS. To the Temuka Domain Board's monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, the Temuka Library Committee wrote inviting the Board to send representatives. together with delegates of the organised unemployed to a conference with the object of organising a queen carnival. Considerable discussion resulted, and it was decided to reply stating that the Board disagreed with the idea of holding a queen carnival. Application for the use of the oval for cricket for the summer was made by the Temuka Cricket Club. Permission was granted at a rental of £3, provided the club did its own maintenance work. A request to be relieved of the work of caretaker of the bowling lawns was made by the curator (Mr A. E. Uden). Various suggestions for relieving the position were considered, and it was left to the chairman (Mr A. VV. Buzan) and Messrs G. Hancox and W. H.
