CITIZENS’ QUEEN COMMITTEE

BALANCE - SHEET PRESENTED OPEN FOR PUBLIC INSPECTION Although the general public was Invited, only members of the committee were present at a meeting last night, when the balance sheet of the Citizens' Queen Committee was presented and adopted. Mr F. M. Ward presided. The chairman in referring to the succcessful nature of the committee's efforts, expressed pleasure that it had been able to return Mrs Mary Raymond at the head of the poll. He thanked the committee for its loyalty and enthusiasm, mentioning the Ladies' Committee undnr the leadership of Mrs G. J. Wallace, the secretary (Mr J. P. Lamb), the treasurer (Mr R. Jordan) and all who had assisted by donations and in other ways. Credit was due also to Mr H. P. Morton who had practically won the day for them In the last few minutes of an exciting Saturday night. A deep debt of gratitude was owing to Mrs Raymond who had entered into the true spirit of the carnival and who had worked enthusiastically ‘for the cause. Affairs Well Managed. Mr H. E. D. Willcox paid a tribute to the work of the secretary and the treasurer. The Committee's affairs had been capably looked after and he doubted whether it would be possible for the other committees to have kept their books so well. Although “dirt” had been thrown after the campaign every shilling had been accounted for. Messrs Lamb and Jordan acknowledged the remarks and said that they were very, pleased to find that their efforts had in some degree been instrumental in placing Mrs Raymond at the top of the poll. Mrs Wallace said that as chairwoman of the ladies’ committee she had received every support from a most enthusiastic band. The fine work of Mr Ward was referred to by Mr Morton, the chairman being accorded a vote of thanks. "I am rather disappointed that there is no one here to question our balancesheet,” said Mr Morton. “I certainly expected somebody.” It was decided that the balance-sheet be not published. Mr Morton stating that the auditor's report had been made public, and anyone who desired to inspect the books could do so.
