An accident occurred near Te Puke resulting in the death of Mr Alexander Gordon, aged 47, auctioneer and stock agent for the New Zealand L»oan and Mercantile Agency Company. Mr Gordon was on a visit to a farm situated on the banks of the Kaituna River. In turning his car on a narrow portion of the road, which there skirts the river bank, he backed into the river and was drowned. The fact that Mr Gordon did not return at noon caused some anxiety, and communications to farms in the locality produced the information that no car was visible on the road. A resident went to make Inquiries and discovered marks on the bank which showed that “the car had slipped in backwards in turning. Mr Gordon leaves a widow and four sons He was known for his geniality and generosity and had a wide circle or friends.
