PARLIAMENT
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 19. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Land Agents Amendment Bill was introduced and read a first time, on the motion of the Hon. P. McCallum. Discussing the question of setting up a Select Committee the Hon. J. A. Hanan said that there was no doubt that the New Zealand Constitution would be amended, and one amendment which he thought would be made would be in the direction of setting up grand committees representative of both Houses. They would be composed of specially suited persons and would obviate the present duplication of the work and would co-ordinate and facilitate the working of the parliamentary machine. Such committees had been successful in other countries. On the motion of the Hon. Sir James Parr, the Nurses and Midwives Amendment Bill, and the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum Amendment Bill were read a second time. The Council adjourned at 4.30 p.m. till to-morrow.
