BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL
ANNUAL* STEEFLECHASES The annual steeplechase events, held in connection with the annual athletic sports of the Timaru Boys’ High School, were run yesterday. By courtesy of the Timaru Golf Club, the events were held over a course laid round the Highfield links. Conditions were perfect, the spectacle presented by the white clad runners on the green slopes being an impressive one. In the junior handicap event, F. Walker, on the 2min mark, gained a useful lead, and won comfortably from D. Wilkes (2min 20sec). In the junior championship a close finish was witnessed, B. Sara defeating J. Ainge by inches. Both runners sprinted all out over the last 200 yards. In the senior handicap event, G. Harte, on the limit, led practically all the way. He was passed in the snrint home by J. P. Evans and V. P. Boot iscr). Boot, who was reserving himself .for the track events, just failed to overtake Evans. Results:— Junior Handicap. F. Walker (2min) 1 D. Wilkes <2min 20sec) 2 W.
